We are Crazy People

April 14, 2016

Over Thanksgiving break, Ben was talking to my cousin Jeffers about how he would love to come see one of his lacrosse games in the spring.  Jeffers would be a senior and we wanted to catch one of his games before he graduated.  We looked at the schedule and tentatively set the date to go check out his game this weekend in April.

Jack was involved in a serious skiing accident on March 5 where he suffered a fractured skull, brain trauma, and injuries to his lungs and heart. He was in the PICU at Dartmouth for a month or so and is now back in NYC at the Rusk Rehab Center.  We have been sending healing vibes and prayers from Georgia, but felt so drawn to get up to New York to not only support him, but definitely to love on our other cousins as well.  So, we planned a crazy whirlwind weekend to Virginia, DC, NYC, and back again!

We started the weekend off with a stop in Charlotte to meet our sweet Annie girl and spend a little time with the Kay crew.

Then we were up and at 'em Friday am to Charlottesville...

Got to spend some time with our cousin Jack, JM, Katie, Dino, DiDi, and MRG

Then, Jeffers' game got rescheduled from 4:00 to 9am so we had to take a train from DC at like 1am so we could make it to the game.
We arrived in plenty of time to get a very large cup of coffee and Uber it over to Brooklyn for the game.
Totally worth it.

Check out the other team's coach... Only in Brooklyn!

After the game, we ventured over to Rusk to have a visit with Jack.  We got off the elevator on his floor to see a big crowd gathered around the nurses station.  Everyone was circled around listening to one of the kids sing.  You better believe it was Jack Guthrie!  Center of attention, singing to all the ladies...
It was a wonderful day, full of laughter and so awesome seeing the progress he has made.  That kid is a fighter and he is strong and he is just amazing.

We left around 3 to stroll through central park and go meet Allison for a drink or 2 before she headed out of town.

So fun seeing this old friend of mine... short but sweet.

Katie and Brendan found there way up to NYC in time for dinner and a comedy show with us!

Less than 24 hours later, we got up with the sun to take the train back to DC.

We definitely made the most of our quick trip to the city.. but dern, we were feeling rough!

A 4 hour train ride and a 2 hour trip in the car, and we were back in C'ville to see our sweet kiddos...
They had a great time with DiDi and MRG complete with picnics, trips to ChikFilA and the park, oh and also... a throw up stomach bug for Kate. (sorry guys!)

Needless to say, we were all pretty darn tired from our whirlwind of a weekend!

After another 8 hour car ride back to Athens, we are all happy to be home!
